Hello! I'm Craig Stevenson, candidate for Hallsville's Board of Education (3-year term). I hope you will consider me when voting on April 4, 2017.
A lot has happened within our school district in a year. We've had our share of difficulties, but I am hopeful we have turned a corner. I commit to being an active participant, watchful eye, and always work to put our students first. Our schools are at a crossroads, and our school board is in a position to determine what direction we take. We have had a rough few months – and I believe we can and should move forward. My priorities within my term will be to: 1) Work with administrators and Board member to determine what additional checks should be in place to protect the taxpayers in the future, 2) spend time in all classroom experiences – from gifted programs, a typical math classes, to the PRIDE Academy to fully understand teaching decisions as they are made; 3) encourage the board of education to consider having a student representative serve on the board; 4) Find more ways to utilize Board meetings to encourage our faculty, staff, and students in addition to the required business; and 5) Ensure Hallsville's financial status is stronger and more secure than where it is today. As a nonprofit director and former higher education advocate who believes deeply in the power of a great education, I have what it takes to help move Hallsville Public Schools forward and affect the change our students and teachers need to succeed. I will fight for a visionary and trustworthy superintendent to lead our district. If faced with cutting the budget, I will focus on the priorities teaching and learning in the classroom. I will work to make sure every child has the opportunity to learn and grow in our high-quality schools with teachers who are changing their lives every day. Working together, we can solve our challenges. As a community, we will have different approaches – but together we are strong enough to be a better school district because of the place we are in today. As your member of the Board of Education, I will want to work with you and the community and help raise the voices of students, teachers and parents to make sure they are heard and solutions to problems are articulated, well-thought, and have a wide variety of buy in. I ask that you vote for me on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 ballot for Hallsville Board of Education. I look forward serving with and alongside each of you. Respectfully, Craig Stevenson |
