Our May 2019 school board meeting was smooth. As we all know, May is incredibly busy for our students, teachers, staff, and administrators.
As always, the Kari Yeagy put out a wonderful overview of highlights from our board meeting. I'll just touch on a few items. First, our construction project. We have a tentative groundbreaking day for the project of Wednesday, June 19! The time is TBD and the date still, can change. However, this is a big deal. SM Wilson provided us a written update on the items going on behind the scenes. I encourage you to scan the report. It has important dates, actions, and a really good updated timeline on the construction process. The next month will be incredibly busy! Here is what will be happening:
Additionally, we reviewed and discussed the professional development program evaluation. It appears that the district is really making changes to better assist our children. Relatively small changes (unseen to students, such as) removing the "motivational speaker" to providing additional opportunities for individual staff development and conferences to learn best practices will reap benefits as our staff apply the tools that they need. These program evaluations are helpful because the Needs Assessment Survey is mentioned several times in the context of how it can be improved as we look toward future years. Without doing these evaluations, adapting this needs assessment may be more difficult because of the busy schedules of everyone involved. Lastly, with the year winding down -- the district reports were full of recognitions. I love reading the accomplishments of our students, whether it is academic or extra-curricular. It is inspiring to have teachers who have worked long days---stay for 30 seconds of recognition for going above and beyond with extra training. This month, it was Amy Bartlett and Kelsey Strubel who were celebrated and attended. If there is one thing that you read or skim, the district reports each month are full of valuable information from policy issues, academic progress of our students, and recognitions. The month has also been full of celebrations. I've attended or plan to attend baccalaureate, celebrating PRIDE's graduates, graduation itself, graduation parties, and the retirement celebration. I'm constantly humbled and grateful for the opportunity to serve as a board member. These events remind me of the incredible work of everyone in our community to support and encourage each other in our own ways. Until next time, if you have any questions, let me know. Craig
