May brings so many changes and transitions. Changing of Seasons. Graduations. Moving-Up-Grade-Levels, Teacher Transitions. Many of you know that May has brought craziness to my personal life as we transitioned our foster children back to their parents in a Trial Home Placement.
Due to that and May's board meeting agenda being lighter--this blog post won't be super long. I will only touch on a few items from our meeting and then briefly touch on graduation and the summer ahead. We approved the bank deposit renewal contract that has been in the works for a few months, approved the contractual Occupational Therapy service, and approved the Boone County Mental Health agreement for the next year. In the payment of bills, I will call out a payment (check) for automatic flushers for our bathrooms. I'm proud of this transition and while it seems....small....I think it will make a big difference. We know our kids struggle with flushing the toilets but this also should help with leaky flushers and modernizing our facilities in addition to saving water. These will be installed in the coming months. I always encourage you to read the district reports for updates from Superintendent Downs and other district administrators. There are a lot of things to celebrate with student and staff achievements. We have much to brag about as a district! For a few minutes, we discussed the safety report within Mr. Sides' report as the district begins to plan and gather cost estimates to prioritize various projects across campus. As a board, we intend to spend some significant funds across the campus on these sorts of things and maintenance issues. Speaking of the bond--a quick update. The board approved the RFQ (request for qualifications) for a "construction manager at-risk." The board is not committing to going down a path to having a construction manager at-risk but is wanting to explore it. This position would be (if selected) an advocate for the district in the construction process. The timeline of our construction process can be seen/found in the April board district reports. We anticipate activity again in June/July/August as it relates to the issuance of the bonds itself for the district to have the funds available to begin moving forward. One more update--the board moved forward with the first steps of bringing our custodial work in-house with making a key hire in that process. We are excited, but also know this is a process. Mistakes will be made and lessons will be learned, but I continue to think that having this in-house is the right move for us at this time. I had the pleasure of being at both the main graduation and PRIDE graduation ceremonies. It's always humbling, fun, and encouraging to feel the "buzz" for students and their families as they complete one journey and move toward another. I'm grateful to serve the community on your behalf. Thanks for reading and don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns!
