On Monday (May 15), the School Board met for our May meeting. Mrs. Minor put together a really good update, and I won't necessarily repeat information, but you can find her article on our meeting here.
A few things of note that I would expand on is on our proposed budget. I would encourage all community members to check out our budget forecast for 2017-2018 here. Our community identified small class sizes as being very important, and we are adding three (3) FTE teachers in crowded areas in addition as to a paraprofessional and a 1/2 time art teacher. I believe we're delivering on our promises. There was some discussion in April about an additional administrator (assistant principal) for the Intermediate building. This was removed, but I believe it will be discussed (and needed) in future years. New budget discussions this month surrounded possible information regarding Parents As Teachers needs, activity/athletic cuts, and professional development needs for non-certificated staff. The board, wants to set our parents, teachers, staff, and administrators, and our students for success. At our June meeting, we will approve the budget in full for 2017-2018. A quick heads-up, I won't be attending in-person. I'll be in Mozambique but will be working to get on the telephone during the meeting. On Tuesday, during our open forum regarding the budget, there were only a few citizens who attended and we had a really good discussion. I believe it's the Board's intent to move forward this fall in opening our master facilities plan to work towards proactively address our facilities needs. While I know this blog is a bit scattered, I would add one thing. You'll likely see a special closed session board meeting in the next week or so. No fears here, this would only be to address open positions to approve contracts. The agenda will be posted when recommendations are ready to be made. Otherwise, I'll see you all at my first Hallsville Graduation Ceremony on Sunday afternoon! Please come up and say hello, introduce yourself to me!
